Donated blood for a family member. A relatively painless experience. Finished in less than 10 minutes, after the paperwork.

Been donating whole blood here for a few years now. Everyone is always nice and it is usually pretty quick. I showed up to my whole blood appointment 15 minutes late today and they filled my spot, with a walk in, and said I couldn’t donate. I was frustrated. Nothing in my reminder email warned me of this. Thankfully I was able to find another drive to donate today. FYI be on time.

I have nothing bad to say about anyone, the process was good, friendly, clean, caring. However, I definitely feel like they (corporate Red Cross) need to compensate for platelet donations. And I’m not talking about piddly snacks, jackets, $10 gas card, button. Reason being, it takes 2 hours, 2 needles and I drove from Hutch to Wichita to give. The feel good of donating just doesn’t add up. I mean honestly if the plasma place down the street pays $60 each time and $100 starting out, I think the Red Cross could compensate for platelets. I did platelets for a year, in return i got a very cheap wind breaker, that was it! I figured it was time to stop all together. I did this back in 2020 and haven’t been back since.

I had an appointment today to give whole blood. Everyone was very friendly. Everything went as planned. I will say this though, it was the longest wait I’ve ever had giving whole blood. In fact, there were six of us in the waiting room to donate whole blood. But, once called back it went as quick as normal.

My first ever donation and I was so lucky to get the BEST phlebotomist, Cameron. He was very nice, and he did an awesome job at anticipating my needs with my first donation. He was also great at explaining everything he was doing and checked in with me to make sure I was doing alright. I also really appreciated all of his strict infection control measures. I hope he sticks around! 🙂

Made a 6pm appt, showed up at 6:03 (according to my phone) and was rejected because she said it was past 6:05. Guess the blood shortage isn’t so bad ‍♀️

They call me ten times a week trying to get me to donate. I get a day off and Google to see what times they’re open. I show up on a Monday morning to donate, and they’re not open for whole blood.
