I am a huge proponent of blood donation and it’s probably because my mom denied me doing the blood drive in high school and I needed her permission since I was under 18. Since then, I’ve been “rebelling” against her by donating blood at least 4x/yr. I also have this weird thing where I try to PR (personal record) my donation time. I’m at about 4:38 filling a pint

Company has changed overtime. When it was Bonfils, donating blood was a good experience. Now that it has become Vitalant, the all mighty dollar and greed of the corporation has ruined the donor experience. Staff turn over is extremely high, and customer care went out the eindow in most cases. If you want to donate blood, check with your local children’s hospital. Until things change here, expect to be called, emailed, texted, mailed very frequently to donate blood so this corporation can make its shareholders happy.

I’ve never been thanked so many times and so sincerely, so authentically, as I was thanked by the men and women of Vitalant on my recent visit. I had never been before; it’s been years since I have donated blood, in a hospital that has since been torn down and replaced by a retail complex. This new facility was bright, clean, and bustling with young professionals. They were optimistic, busy with their various tasks, and uniformly grateful and polite. The check-in and screening went quickly, the procedure itself was comfortable and easily done, the snacks were plentiful. I did not have to do much, really, just show up and share… but I was treated with enormous appreciation. This showed the dedication of the staff, certainly – but it was also a reminder of the importance, of the great helpfulness of blood donations. Thus reminded, I will make my own donations a regular activity.

Bonfils was better. Regular donor in the 7 gallon club. With the change to Vitalant I am pressured to donate 2 units of platelets and 2 units of plasma. Vitalant is more patient as a product focused and a worse care experience than when they were Bonfils. Going do try Children’s Hospital going forward.

The staff were friendly but don’t even bother trying to donate if you have small veins. I warned them about mine, they still missed. Then didn’t want to do my other arm because then I “wouldn’t be eligible to donate again for 8 weeks” when they missed that one too. I highly doubt that I’ll be coming back to donate here again. It was definitely a waste of time and frustrating to be turned away when there’s a huge blood shortage and I’ve been able to successfully donate blood for over a decade.
