I give platelets every couple of weeks. Usually takes between an hour and a half and 2 hours, but it’s a much needed component of blood.

First and LAST time here. Highly disappointed with this location. Of the 17 times I’ve donated with Versiti (I knew them as Heartland Blood before they changed the name), never has there been an issue. Lisa was kind and polite (one star for her and the other star because the place actually looked clean) and was the one that informed me of how many times I’ve donated and gave me a 2 gallon pin. After the initial check up, that’s where it all went downhill. I understand they ask you which arm to use, but if they are checking for veins and can’t find one, switch arms. I’ve had a phlebotomist do this before. They inserted the needle and when I saw no blood, I knew it was going to be bad. The initial employee asked for assistance and then came the moving of the needle while still in my arm. It was moved around a couple of times. I do have a high pain tolerance as I have multiple tattoos but I don’t think I should have to be put through the discomfort to begin with. After they filled their test tubes, they decided to “pull it” as there was a “clot in the lines” and the pint bag was no longer filling up. At this point I figured I was done and they would take the needle out but I still sat there with the needle in. I felt like the needle was pulled out roughly as it actually hurt. They asked if I wanted to do the other arm and I figured I did come to donate blood so why not? Then as she’s palpitating my arm, another girl comes up and starts mumbling to her that she can’t stick me twice. They start mumbling and whispering to each other before one of them yells to team lead across the room if she could stick me again. At this point, I’ve lost all trust in the employees and decide to leave. Later that night, I removed the wrap they placed and the inside of my arm is incredibly bruised. The injection site was actually still open and slightly bleeding. I would post a picture but I’m not sure if Google would approve. Even after all that, I didn’t even get a t-shirt.

I donate frequently and consider it important, however i’ve had my fair share of disappointments with this location. First off there is only a single phlebotomist who can even find a vein without digging and have actually been told to just go home 3 times because someone else couldnt find it. The last time I visited I had such a bad and painful experience I vowed to never go again. However, I did make an appointment. Now I understand with covid you have your precautions but I was yet AGAIN turned away because I had a “fever” of 100. Even after stating that on this 90° day I drove 30 minutes without my A/C they told me to go home.. Not to mention im tested everyday at work. Either way I get home take my temp and its a 97.9 so needless to say congratulations you’ve completely lost a repetitive donor. Dont call or email again.

Just wait for a blood drive if you don’t live in crystal lake. If they send emails saying they’ll give you a gift, chances are if you schedule or walk in, you’re not going to get it anyways as I’ve noticed from the past three visits. Won’t be wasting the gas going in anymore. The phlebotomists are very nice at least, I like donating even without the incentives but would rather not be misled. And be prepared for them to call you every @$#!ing day even if you’ve already told them you’re out of state and won’t be back for a while. I just hang up now.
