I donate blood regularly. I went to donate double reds today, and I was shocked to see that the staff are not wearing masks. Louisiana is in a major COVID surge, this is a health care facility, and you require close proximity and the removal of masks to take oral temperature. Masking with N95s or better should be required. If you want people to help the sick, you need to do your part in preventing people from getting infected with COVID in your facility. The staff here are otherwise friendly, and I do not blame them for this shortsighted and dangerous “mask optional” policy.

With blood levels really LOW, I decided to donate this morning. I also want to see if I have the COVID antibodies from when I was really sock last week but tested negative 4xs for the virus. This is where I usually go to donate unless there’s a drive where someone needs donations. I did the FastLane, filling out the questions before arriving. It helps. The staff is amazing, super friendly. They are extremely helpful not only to the patients but to each other. I witnessed this morning, a what seemed like a newer staff being guided with grace from her coworker, who was actually taking of my donation. It was beautiful. She even checked out my house float on Instagram when we were done. If you can donate blood, it saves lives.

I’m a universal plasma donor who has donated regularly in the past at this location although this past year has been intermittent due to stuff outside my control. Anyways, there’s no point in making appointments because they take people in the order they arrive, even if you’re there for an aphaeresis appointment which takes 2 hours, even if they’re fully booked with appointments. I waited almost an hour and ended up having to leave.

I love this place. The Blood Center is so friendly and nice and experienced. Never had an issue with Blood Center. I do wish they bring back the old Iggy shirts. I find other places don’t know how to take blood and they grumpy and have hard time finding veins. I went to a blood drive several months ago for a hospital that starts with O, and they stuck me so poorly and painfully, that I was only able to fill up 1/4 the bag. They discarded it and sent me home. If they were to hit the artery right we would not have that problem. Never had this problem at The Blood Center. I got a few stories about this other place but really my review is about the Blood Center and their outstanding service.

I’ve been to this location before and had a great experience. The person working the reception area today was the absolute worst. She was not checking the sign in sheet at all and took someone back before me. I had to move my seat to finally get acknowledged. Her excuse was they are busy. I was the only person there in the waiting area for a least the 20 minutes I sat there. I can see how that could be overwhelming. I will not be back!

It’s like Cheers meets Dracula. You walk in and everyone greets you by name…then they take your blood. Friendly, personable, professional. Other blood banks call, but I only donate here. Almost 8 gallons and counting!

They told me they couldn’t take my blood because you have to be 115 pounds (even though the website says 110 pounds). They also told me I have to eat something substantial before donating and that the two pieces of peanut butter toast and the banana I had wasn’t enough….. will try another blood donation center
