I had an appointment it took a good while, the phlebotomist had 3 months experience and that made me uncomfortable, she kept poking around in my arm leaving a fragment of needle in my arm. She never bothered to see if I was comfortable and I kept telling her it was poking my arm. When it was complete she pulled the needle out and my blood was spraying all over my arm. It was a terrible experience for me.

Having the blood donation center on Route 46 in Bulverde is great. Give me the opportunity to donate more because it is a lot closer to home for me then having to go downtown San Antonio. The workers there are all really great

I’m really annoyed by the ridiculous policies in place. I will start by saying that the technician that helped me was very nice and this is not her fault whatsoever. I did the questionnaire & then she had to take my blood pressure. The BP monitor said my BP was 90/41 and with that reading it was too low & I was disqualified from donating for the next 4 days. I explained that I had just been at a doctors appointment 2 hours prior and my BP was 122/78 & that this monitor probably had an error. She explained that per policy she couldn’t take it again to qualify me. I asked if we could just try the other arm (for my piece of mind) and when we did it read 119/81. Clearly it was the monitor not working properly!

I’ve been twice. Staff was different but experience was th same, A+. These women are great at what they do. I have been a life long needle hater, but they have a way of showing a professionalism that makes you feel comfortable.

They will let you waste an hour of your life scheduling an appointment, answering a detailed questionnaire in advance, changing into a short sleeved shirt before you leave work, fighting traffic to get to the appointment on time, answering the questionnaire AGAIN because they were never really going to accept the one you did at home that made you late to work, just to tell you that when you answered “yes” when asked on the questionnaire whether you are currently taking any antibiotics, you were disqualified from donating. What’s messed up about that, is that one of the questions on the questionnaire asks if you’ve eaten a full meal within the last 4 hours, but then goes on to mention something like, “answering no to this question will not disqualify you from donating”. So, it’s not like they don’t have the COMMUNICATION technology to tell the prospective donor they are disqualified from donating if they answer yes to taking antibiotics. Maybe don’t drive over here later. Maybe don’t ask to leave one hour early from work to make your “lifesaving” appointment. I tried to donate today, because for the last two weeks, channel 4 morning news had been asking viewer who have O+ blood to donate because the blood banks are super low on that type. And I cared, but not enough to keep letting this organization waste my time. It’s like our 43rd President always says, “Shoe me once…shame on you. Shoe me twice…I’m keeping those shoes.”

The staff and process to donate blood is friendly and worthwhile to do, for a good cause. However. If you schedule an appointment, you should show up 30mins early. Unless you are a usual. My experience has been nuts. 1 hr process to even begin donating blood, which kinda makes donating pointless even if you have an appointment. I’ve shown up twice 30mins early for my scheduled appointment and the process doesn’t even begin on time.

Staff is super rude. They make demands, not requests anf the unload all their drama you so that we feel obligated to sympathize for people and situations you don’t know. After having to wait for them to stop discussing it long enough to get to you. Left without giving. Will not let those kind of people near me with needles. BEWARE!!

guests are accompanying a donor are welcomed and offered the same snacks drinks and shirts as the donors themselves. I’ve gone a few times and the staff are always very friendly even over the phone. The paperwork is tedious but brief.

First experience was great!! Nice staff and helpful throughout the whole process!! I went and donated platelets and was told I could come back in eight days to donate again. The second time I went they told me they took platelets and whole blood at the same time (I was completely unaware that they took both) and turned me away.
