I’ve been to this location probably 20-30 times. I’ve donated whole blood and platelets. The staff at this location is quite friendly however their skills in getting access to the vein/drawing blood vary greatly person to person. There are some veteran blood drawers but 50/50 I will be with someone new or inexperienced in drawing blood. Some are able to get the vein right away, others struggle greatly and attempt a couple times, sometimes to no success. I’m often left painfully bruised if they move the needle around multiple times trying to find the vein. When I get blood drawn for medical tests I’ve asked if my veins are as difficult as they claim at Red Cross and I’m usually met with no, not if they know how to do it. ‍♀️

I’ve gone here twice for appointments but never actually donated. The first time, like another reviewer said, we had trouble with the parking situation and ended up being 10 minutes late with the appointments cancelled. There is no clear information online where to park, and the cancelation policy was not made clear to me in advance. The second time, it was my fault I couldn’t donate (iron a little low), but it took a lotttttt of waiting and, seemingly, confusion from staff to reach that conclusion. If you live nearby and its convenient to get here, definitely give it a try! Beautiful building and everyone is friendly enough. I will choose to donate at drives in my immediate area now though.

COVID precautions are great! When I donated here in March, it was a great experience and I was excited to come back. Unfortunately, when I came back in September, the machine they hooked me up to wasn’t working, they hit a nerve while trying to find a vein, caused a bruise the size of a baseball and some nerve damage that hasn’t completely healed. I decided to try again, and I went in on December 19th, which was a worse experience. In December, they dug the needle in so hard it hit another nerve, and couldn’t complete the donation. I’ve been on the phone with their nurses after both bad donations, and they’ve helped, but I wouldn’t recommend coming here to donate blood. With two bad experiences in a row, I won’t be returning. Red Cross does some great things, but they need to train their people at this location better. The nurses are great, and seemed genuinely worried about me and my experiences. The nurses are why I’m giving two stars instead of one. I hope they can get better training to save anyone else from this situation.
