This was my first time giving blood through New York Blood Center, and I had a great experience! All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The process was smooth and easy. There was no wait. I was in and out in less than an hour.

I booked an appointment for port Authority center to donate blood for first time and I was running late, I called and confirmed my appointment and did let them know that I was running late they said it was okay. When I reached at the place the door had close sign, I could see the employees through glass walls and I knocked but they chose to ignore me. Worst experience ever !!Staff needs training on patient/ donor management and if you are closing earlier than written on google please mention that.

I absolutely dislike this place. It was fairly empty when I came in, but their lack of attention when coming in was a nuisance. The lady at the check in was busy on her cellphone to give me proper directions. She sent me to a gentleman to get my vitals taken who was sitting down on his cellphone and to busy to even wave his hand to tell me where to go. The only saving grace was a gentleman called Ron. He was just a cool dude to talk with and forget you were there to donate blood. Besides that, I think guidelines should be established on how to treat people.

First time donor! As others have mentioned, the center itself is difficult to find, so do leave extra time to navigate your way. I was a little late to my appointment but was still seen immediately. To the person, everyone I interacted with was kind helpful. Ron did my medical screening/iron test and set me up at my donation station – what a wonderful and gentle person. The snack station was well-stocked and comfortable. The space is small overall, so I can understand how at “peak” donation time, you may experience a wait, but I appreciated the efficiency and care of the staff!

The location is very convenient and everyone inside was lovely from start to finish. No issues, no waiting. The location is tricky because information isn’t posted — in the south building of Port Authority walk straight to the very back towards 9th Ave and it’ll be on your right across from where the bus ticketing is.

I went out of my way to make sure I kept my appointment to donate whole blood here since they seem so desperate for blood donations. I arrive on time with about 8 people in front of me and no chairs available to sit. I wait outside the office where a line has formed and in 30 minutes just as I left, one person completed their appointment. So in 30 minutes, they finished with 1 person donating blood. Absolutely bad scheduling and poor staff. Do not waste your time since you will wait over an hour just to be seen. Mind you, they don’t take walk ins. So this is all people they’ve scheduled themselves.

Today I went to donate blood at this location and something I have noticed is that the attitude of the people who work here is not always the best. I get the impression that they think they are doing you a favor when those of us who go to places like this do it with the sole purpose of helping. This was no exception. I went with a friend for my appointment because she was also interested in donating but she only speaks Spanish and for this reason she couldn’t donate (which I can understand because she needs to give her consent and there was no one there to do a translation and I was denied the opportunity to translate for her). apart from that everything was normal (they weren’t that nice but they weren’t being rude either) what bothered me is that I’ve been a frequent donor for about three years and I’ve ALWAYS told them to please put the needle in my right arm because I am left-handed and I use my left arm for many things that require detail thanks to my profession and my hobbies and I know that after donating blood your arm is in some way sensitive. I expressed to the nurse that I wanted it to be in my right arm (like all the other occasions) but she refused, downplaying it and saying that it was not my decision and that it is not like this was a surgery and proceeded to insert the needle on my right arm. I wanted not to get upset because I always go with the intention of helping but after that a man sat next to me and another of the nurses asked him which arm he wanted the needle to be inserted in so I asked her if we could choose which arm and she gave me a vague answer. Now my arm is sore and I clearly don’t plan on going back to this location.

I went to donate a couple of weeks ago, and had an incredibly negative experience with being screened before donating. First just a small note: this location is quite difficult to find so make sure you give yourself an extra 15 minutes to find it. The office is pretty small and cramped.

I was very confused as to where exactly this location was and spent about 15 minutes wandering around before I found it, so for anyone else, it’s inside Port Authority across from the ticketing kiosks. I went to donate whole blood around 6pm after work. There was a bit of a wait because they were short staffed that evening with every bed full, but everyone was lovely. They had us wait outside 6ft apart and get our temps checked before going in and getting registered/doing paperwork. After that, it’s your average blood donation. 4 stars only because this isn’t the best facility I’ve ever been in, but they certainly make it work. My nurse was the best and we had a nice little chat while I was donating.

I came to donate blood and 3 different people stuck me at least 4 times each before they could even find my vein which hurt a lot. One of the people that stuck me many times then said to “calm down” and gave me an attitude about it. Hello, you and your coworkers have stuck me many times up to now so of course it’s going to hurt. It’s like they don’t even know that moving a needle around a person multiple times is painful! This is the worst donor center, never coming back here again.
