This is of course a wonderful foundation, However the staff that take your blood are not trained well or just don’t care. Very painful and left large bruises on my arm. Poor treatment of a donor is in no way the Red Cross of the past.

An unfriendly place. I have O- blood. I have always given plasma and blood as often as I can. I rarely weigh 110 lbs, which is the lower weight limit. I normally weigh 106 or 107. I weigh every morning when I get up. If I happen to weigh 110 lbs, I eat quickly and rush over to the blood donation center to give a pint of blood before I lose weight. I worked at gaining weight recently for the purpose of being able to give blood. When I finally made it to 110 lbs, I rushed over to the Center. There was no one waiting to give blood.

An awful place. First off, finding the right entrance during the COVID-19 pandemic is nearly impossible. The signage is very poor. And then once inside, the precautions are lax. You are seated in a very small room right next to the staff person who does your intake. And the staff person told me I did not have to wear a mask (I was). Then when I was giving blood, they struggled with my vein and called for assistance from someone else. That person took approximately 10 minutes before arriving and then moved the needle some more. All this time, whatever questions I asked went unanswered. Staff just communicated with themselves and wouldn’t tell me what was going on. Like, be human beings! It turns out I had already started clotting and so after 15 minutes, they stopped the donation. I was 3/4 full of the unit, which doesn’t count as a donation. I was released and told I would not get the COVID-19 antibody test I was promised because I did not finish, as if it was my fault. Just totally tactless staff who do not treat you like humans, just as bodies from which they can draw blood. Basically vampires.

Best donor center ever! I have been a donor for decades, and I have never seen a more high tech set up at a red cross. Lounges and blankets to keep you cozy during your donation… and you can watch a movie on a personal screen! There is also a great variety of snacks, including gluten free options, and plenty of free on-site parking…which is nice, considering it is in the downtown area.

Short wait if you have an appointment and not overly long if a walk in. Friendly and very competent staff. Donations are handled quickly. Snacks and juice in a sitting area to recuperate for a short time prior to driving.

These guys can get a pint of blood out of you faster than Dracula. The junk food is not as good as it was 10 years ago, though. Questions are a little nosy. I still don’t understand why I feel so good after bleeding so much. Guess I will keep going till I figure it out.Try it sometime. Help ’em help us.

Where else can you go and watch a movie while you’re saving someone’s life? A platelet donation can take a while, but you just lie there, watch tv or a movie, and let the machine do its work. When you’re done, you can go get a juice and relax, and know that your platelets are on their way to save a life. This is not a metaphor. This stuff actually keeps people alive, and there is no way to get it other than out of your arm. There is no replacement for human blood.
