MEDIC was established in 1958 by Carl Nelson, MD, under the sponsorship of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. Area physicians supported the independent, not-for-profit blood center because they wanted a source of blood from volunteer donors, and they desired centralization of blood collection, testing and distribution. MEDIC’s operational and capital costs are financed by blood supplier processing fees charged to hospitals. MEDIC is the only U.S. blood center which has a Blood Coverage Program covering members’ blood supplier processing fees at any hospital in the country. MEDIC is an accredited member of the American Association of Blood Banks and America’s Blood Centers. The center adheres to the blood product safety regulations establish

I’ve donated blood here ever since relocating to Knoxville in 2006 and have always had quality and friendly service.

Kingston Pike Farragut Says Walk In but I walked in and 6 people that came in after me, went before me. After an hour I left.

I have tried to schedule an appointment multiple times now (walk-ins are not accepted anymore) and just get put on hold for a long time until I give up. Please make it easier to schedule an appt and donate!

The employees working there when I went are some of the nicest people I have ever met! I had to wait a while (which is normal for a Friday when a lot of people show up). It also took a short while for them to get the needle correctly in the vein, but I have terrible veins, so I understand! They checked up on me, asking me if I needed a blanket, snacks, etc. It made a not-so-fun process very tolerable.

On Monday July 29th a local TV station advised that blood levels were seriously low- especially O type. So on Tuesday I decided to go to the Farragut location. It was poorly staffed and I waited 40 minutes and never got checked in. The waiting room had 7-8 people and when another came in she advised them it would take 45 minutes to get them checked in. That comment cleared the whole waiting room. Out of the goodness of their hearts people took time out of their busy schedule to donate blood and don’t have 2 hours for this whole process. It’s no wonder there is a blood shortage if this is how Medic manages their facility. That was 8 pints of blood lost (probably more) because of poor management.

This review is for the MOBILE blood drive that came to Oak Ridge. Very slow, the announcement said to make an online appointment (which I did) but they were accepting walk-ins as well. What should have taken less than 30 minutes took 80 minutes. Also, they weren’t requiring everyone in the mobile unit to wear masks.

I’ve never had an issue here until I had to deal with Mary tonight. She hardly knew how to navigate their computer system to screen me, let alone greet my friend and I when we walked through the door. My friend had never donated so she still needed to be registered while I went straight to screening with Mary. By the time I finished, my friend was already halfway done donating blood, that’s how incredibly incompetent Mary was. She even had to call for the other worker to come and help her on the computer because she didn’t know what she was doing. Not only that, but Mary missed my vein and it resulted in a hematoma, which (surprise surprise) was the first time that’s ever happened to me. Also, the guy that worked there asked Mary to hold the needle in my friend’s arm while he grabbed something; (Surprise surprise again) Mary let go of the needle, blood started squirting out of my friend’s arm, and Mary had no idea what to do, except call for the other guy to come and help. I was so furious at how incompetent this lady was that I didn’t even bother to stay and have the other guy poke around in my other arm. Next time I go in, I will make sure NOT to deal with Mary.
