Kentucky Blood Center is a community-based nonprofit organization that provides lifesaving blood products to more than 70 hospitals throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. We strive to ensure that every hospital we serve has access to a safe and abundant blood supply. To do so, we rely on generous volunteer blood donors to provide 400 pints of blood every day to meet patients’ needs.
We envision to be an integral and valued part in healthcare and to support our local communities in any way we can by constantly innovating, developing and changing to improve the blood center in the best way we can.
We value:
♥ Mutual respect.
♥ Innovation.
♥ Results! High performance should be recognized and rewarded.
♥ “Doing the right thing.”

Great bunch of people, willing to help or talk to you about blood donations.

My doctor sent order to have my blood drawn. Staff have failed to ‘get me in their system’ and don’t answer the phone. This has gone on for a month. Today, someone finally answered the phone but put me on hold and then to phone mail… ridiculous!

I went through the entire pre screening process, answered all the questions and only when I arrived to donate was I told that because I have prostate cancer, which i disclosed in the pre screening, I could not donate. I am not receiving ANY treatments yet am unable to donate. It would have saved you folks as well as me a lot of time if during the pre screening process this would have been told to me. Please fix this

Staff has always been friendly and caring, but a tad overworked. I feel treated with respect and the process is as hassle free as can be. Staff all seem knowledgeable about all aspects of donation and have time for any questions I may have.

I have been donating blood at different locations since I was 16, now almost 21 and have never had a good experience with the incompetence of their employees lacking skills. Today, the needle was in my arm placed by a new employee I’m assuming because there was an older employee having to watch her and my blood was flowing in the tubing as I was watching it!!!! she was told to pull the needle back a little bit and she did and the older lady stepped in and pulled it more then re inserted it. I said I see the bevel it’s no longer in my arm and she said I don’t see the bevel, after she re inserted it. I had to be stuck twice today which was completely preventable

Majority of the staff are very friendly! I’ve had one bad experience with the girl taking my blood.. she didn’t like answering the few questions that I had and made me feel as it was inconvenient for me to donate but treated the man beside me with a lot more passion. I plan on donating in the future and I hope that I’m not such a disturbance next time.

Every 12 weeks or so I get blood drawn because my red blood cells get to high and can cause increase blood pressure. I went in on a Friday and my blood pressure was high, I was told I couldn’t give blood because of my blood pressure and come back in 3 days. OK, my blood pressure is High because of my red blood cells and they want me to wait 3 more days. So I did, I come back on Monday and was told I was already in the computer and It would let me give blood for 12 weeks. (The computer said so, so its law) They said they can reset the computer and come back in another few days. Now, WHY couldn’t they take my blood pressure and if it was OK, someone draw my blood. But NO, the computer said I couldn’t. So now I wait again while my red blood cells continue to climb. People need to quit looking at the computer and look at the situation. This is why people complain about Health Care.

The male back up supervisor was distracted and disengaged to the point of dangerous. Mentally checked out. The mood and demeanor of all staff was cold and machine like. Zero bed side manner. If this was a factory or other non- healthcare business I would not bother to review. In this setting, and with personnel in leadership so detached, I do NOT recommend donating at this location if you are a first time donor. My donation was Saturday 4-17-2021.

I have always had good experiences donating blood here, but yesterday’s experience really stood out! I arrived 20 minutes before my scheduled appointment and expected to wait since I was so early. Instead, the staff had me fill out my questionnaire and immediately took me back to the screening area. The screener was fantastic. She was very friendly and made the screening process a breeze. The lady who stuck me was great too… one stick and she had it. More than one nurse has told me I have veins that “roll”, so when I get blood drawn for lab work at the doctor, it can take 2 or 3 tries. The blood center has never failed me, one stick every time! It’s experiences like this that keep me coming back to donate.

It feels good to help people by donating blood. This place can take some time but it’s usually not too busy and if you make an appointment it works out pretty well. I usually don’t have too much trouble but I have had to be stuck a few times, the staff were nice and provided me with something to drink to avoid feeling poorly while donating.
