The Blood Bank of Delaware, as it was then known, was founded in 1954 as a non-profit, community-based blood center providing blood and blood products to hospitals and other organizations. In 1990, the organization merged with Blood Bank of the Eastern Shore to become Blood Bank of Delaware/Eastern Shore. In 2004 the organization changed its name to Blood Bank of Delmarva. Today, BBD serves 1.6 million people in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties, Del.; Cecil County, Md.; Eastern Shore, Md. and Eastern Shore, Va. BBD is an FDA licensed a member of America’s Blood Centers and accredited by AABB.

Was going to donate since blood is needed, found out the employees have to have the Vid shot to work there. This is forced and uncalled for. Donating blood will not be done now. You are forcing employees to take a shot proven not to even work, so I will force myself to say hell no to you. Sick and disgusting behavior from a business.

My 17 year old daughter had a bad experience when giving blood this week at North Dorchester High School. She is 5’1″ tall and 105 pounds. At first a vein was difficult to locate, so the needle was wiggled around, producing a 3/4 inch incision on the inside of her elbow. Although the blood had been extracted over 12 hours earlier, the wound was still actively bleeding.

Staff treats donors like friends and family and strive daily to be good stewards of donor intent. If you are feeling apprehensive about the donation process, the staff at Blood Bank of Delmarva will do their best to help you face your fears to become the hero you were meant to be. From start to finish the entire process takes about 1 hour (whole-blood donation). First, the donor fills out a medical questionnaire and reads pre-donation material. Then, the donor is given a brief health screening and reviews questionnaire with a blood collection technician privately. The next step is the actual blood donation. Once the donation process is complete, the donor is asked to spend the last 15 minutes in the Canteen to enjoy bottomless refreshments and snacks. On occasion, t-shirts and/or prizes are given away to show appreciation to the donors.

Always professional and friendly staff. They are usually really good with taking you back at your appointment time and not having a long wait. Nice canteen area for after donating. They do whole blood, double red, and now platelet donations.
