The Blood Bank of Delaware, as it was then known, was founded in 1954 as a non-profit, community-based blood center providing blood and blood products to hospitals and other organizations. In 1990, the organization merged with Blood Bank of the Eastern Shore to become Blood Bank of Delaware/Eastern Shore. In 2004 the organization changed its name to Blood Bank of Delmarva. Today, BBD serves 1.6 million people in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties, Del.; Cecil County, Md.; Eastern Shore, Md. and Eastern Shore, Va. BBD is an FDA licensed a member of America’s Blood Centers and accredited by AABB.

Since I can remember my parents and grandparents have always encouraged us to donate blood. My grandmother has a rare type of blood so she goes as much as she can. I try to go at least once a month. They are always fast and friendly. The building is clean and they never have to poke me more than once.

Just went to donate as I try to donate often. The website said it was open but it is closed. What a waste of time as I have thin veins and have to be off caffeine for a week before I can donate. Maybe I will try again in a few months, but as I have O positive blood that could really hurt someone on this 4th of July week. I pray that no one suffers because of this. The people that work here are great, it is the upper management that seems to be incompetent up in Wilmington.

I’ve always had a pleasant experience donating blood here. Sometimes they are slow at getting you back there and starting the donation even with an appointment but all the staff is friendly and there is always a volunteer their to get you refreshments in the canteen after your donation

When I was having blood drawn there this morning the lab tech dropped the syringe and proceeded to start to use it to draw blood. When I stopped her and told her to use a clean one she was obviously not happy and responded ‘the cap was still on’ such practices should not happen. Might I add that there was also clutter at Station one from the previous draw. Usually go there but was disturbed by this lack of care.
