Always a good experience. Helping to save lives, being treated with kindness and respect, free treats after donating. What’s not to like?

My first visit to donate platelets ended without donating after I was stuck twice with no success. I made another appointment to try again and after having my veins looked over by a seemingly over-confident and condescending individual I was told that I would be removed from their list as my veins were no good. I am a nurse who has worked for over 45 years in the operating room where we start many IVs and I’m here to tell you that my veins are absolutely fine. I have had multiple surgeries and have never had to be stuck more than once to start an IV. I asked why I wasn’t told the first time that I wasn’t a good candidate for platelet donation, as my drive to get to the center is long, and was told that some of the other personnel just aren’t as good as he is at spotting bad veins!!! Way to support your co-workers, dude!!! This experience made me reluctant to donate in the future, but did some “self talk” and decided that just because of one individual I would not let myself give up on a good thing. Hope you don’t get “this guy”!

Staff are highly competent and friendly. Environment is bright and pleasant. The movie selection is 2nd to none.

I used to donate blood all the time in NYC. I would be in and out the door in 30 minutes (I gush). Been here twice and each time it took 90 minutes. That really isn’t much of an incentive to donate any more. Staff was, however, really nice and friendly.

Only two stars because these people consistently don’t even smile or introduce themselves. The volunteer at the desk is more friendly and helpful. The only person who’s ever cheery and introduces herself is Wanda. Everybody else doesn’t even bother wearing a name tag let alone making eye contact or ask you how you’re doing. I only go back because the donation of blood is important not the way the volunteer is treated. But I’m sure there are other people who never go back because of the way they are treated. It only takes a moment to treat somebody well. And these people are supposedly nurses.

One of the most disorganized donation organizations I’ve ever worked with! Twice my appointment was cancelled – and no notification of such. Twice I drove myself all the way to the donation location only to find empty parking lots. Twice I moved my afternoon appointments to accommodate them, and twice, they blew it. Do yourself a favor and donate at a much more efficiently run, professionally organized center like BLOODWORKS NORTHWEST. I’ve given up on the American Red Cross…..

I’ve tried donating here twice, both times with appointments, and and neither time were they able to find my appointment on their roll. Both times there have been plenty of people lined up to donate, but very few actual techs on staff. Ironically, despite this being a big, centrally located center specifically dedicated to this organization, it seems that the remote blood drives are always better prepared and staffed to handle blood donations. I’m going to stick with those going forward.

Have been here 20+ times in the past two years and have had a great experience with the staff every time. Five stars for consistency and mission. However have two gripes with the overall organization. First, ARC requires they call continuously. Good to have reminders, but knowing myself I know when I can and will donate, I don’t need reminders and there is apparently no way to stop this. Second, when they are training new people it can be rough getting stuck. 2-3 times having the needle moved around or missing the vein is not exactly a pleasant time and cant imagine someone donating for the first time having it happen… What doesnt kill you makes you stronger! Everyone should donate if they are eligible!

Went to give platelets on Tues, June 25th at 845am. The security guard at the front desk gave me a attitude, because I didn’t know what I was supposed to do. I’m here to donate – on my own free time and my own free will – not to get a attitude as if I’m a new employee. All I was asking for was where to go to meet my appointment, and he cops this ‘don’t you know where you’re going?’ Like dude, you’re at the FRONT DESK, WHERE PEOPLE GO FOR HELP. I didn’t just call off work to donate placelets to get some guy grilling me — tell me where to go.
