I try to donate platelets every 2 weeks and have done so for many years. I started at the old location and like the new one on Oxnard much better. Staff is always wonderful and listen to my suggestions about best needle placement. They always get me in within 5 minutes of my showing up. I hope others will try here if they didn’t feel comfortable at the old location.

Just donated today. Was a good experience. Staff were friendly and kept checking on me frequently. Faith and Olive were my phlebotomists today and they did an excellent job.

I’m so disappointed. I made a 6:15pm appointment and showed up 20 minutes early only to find the wrought iron gates closed and no way to get in to the parking lot. I wasn’t about to get out of my car and look more closely for how to get in as it was very dark and there were multiple homeless men wandering around in the front – one even jumped into the hedge and then back out again while I was parked on the street looking for a way to get in. I’m not giving up though. I will try and make an appointment during the day so I can figure out how to get in safely.

I had a very disappointing experience yesterday at this donation center. I had an appointment at 3:15 pm and I was at the center 15 minutes before my appointment. At 3:30, RN Dasilva told me that they are not able to take my samples because it’s late and they don’t have time. I explained to her that I had to take half a day off from work and drive to Woodland Hills for this appointment and this is not my fault, So they can’t just tell me they can’t without respecting my time, she answered rudely: yes we can! I was very surprised with her answer and asked for the supervisor, she said I am the supervisor! I can’t believe that I was treated like that in American Red Cross donation center!!!

This was my second blood donation this year. It was painless and I had absolutely no aftereffects. I think this was my 15th over the past 30 years. As long as my O+ is needed I intend to keep myself healthy so that I can continue donating on a timely basis!!

I was just turned away from donating blood when all the beds were empty. The manager said they could not accommodate walk ins “and would not discuss company policy with me”. I just can’t believe they’d turn away willing donors when there is always a pressing need.

If you can find no time in your busy schedule for your altruistic goals this is for you. I can think of no better way than giving your blood that will almost certainly if used be used to save someone’s life. There is perhaps no better, less schedule impacting way to benefit society than donating your blood. Please consider doing so.

Give platelets every 2 or 3 weeks. This takes about 2 hrs. And from Valencia you have to drive to Woodland Hills which adds another hour and a half. Platelets are always in demand and it makes you feel great about helping others.
