Set up an appointment. Arrived at the office and staff said no one was there that could operate the machine to do a simple PowerRed donation. No one alerted me via phone or email beforehand. There were literally half a dozen staff and no donors inside. None of the staff offered to reschedule me or offered to do a whole blood donation. This is supposed to be the Central Jersey headquarters. What’s going on here?

Came for a platelet donation, was welcomed and checked in quickly. Friendly staff, explained each process in detail and asked if I had any questions or concerns. The setup was nice with a monitor and netflix for the platelet donation (2.5 hours). Got a good recommendation on a movie and they made sure I was comfortable for the entire process. I’ve donated blood at this location before and always have a pleasant experience.

Tried to go to my donation appointment and was 10 minutes late because I was confused about the location of the building (there’s another Red Cross building several hundred feet away in the parking lot with a sign saying that they’re closed). Walked around, ringed building doorbells to see if I could get assistance, tried calling the number listed for this location and got a series of useless automated messages, couldn’t get in touch with a human.

Absolutely horrible service. I had scheduled an appointment on Saturday for 3pm but it turns out on Saturdays they close at 1pm. This was clearly a mistake on their part because my appointment was made over the phone with one of their employees who should have known their own hours. Anyway, when I arrived at the building the door was locked. I knocked and a lady that was on her way out came and opened the door for me. Once I stepped in I was immediately confronted by a woman who seemed very mad. She then aggressively said, “Didn’t you find the door locked?,” I then replied in shock saying “yes, but I have an appointment at 3.” She then proceeded to yell at me and tell me that I was wrong until I showed her my confirmation email for the appointment. After I had shown her the email she then rudely gave me the information necessary to read before giving a blood donation. I was with my mom throughout all of this and she was extremely upset. She told me: “How are they going to treat you like this when you are going out of your way to donate blood to them?” I ultimately agreed with her and generally felt uncomfortable in that environment after being attacked and decided to leave. Overall, very disappointed in the outcome of that situation, and would never recommend going to this location to donate blood. Too much of a hostile environment when it should be nothing but welcoming. After all, you are donating your own blood.

Some friends and I donated blood here today and I’d be remiss if I didn’t note how perky and chatty their staff interacted with us despite being on hour 11 of a long day. They’re good at what they do and take the time to joke around with blood donors while still keeping a tight, streamlined process moving. Society could use more folks like them. Thanks again.

I just dropped by for my 4:15 appointment. The place was closed and dark. The Red Cross Site says it should be open until 8 PM and still have 9 open slots available. Needless to say I rescheduled elsewhere.
