I donated some platelets at this Red Cross in Duluth and had a great experience!

Staff is kind but need training. They shoved the needle up into my arm because blood was not flowing out and injured my nerve. I told them it hurts but left it in until I explicitly said take the needle out. Please train the staff.

Joshua Reid is the best guy here, did everything smoothly, swiftly, and almost painlessly. Also, they have reclining chairs. Very cool, best donation center I’ve been to.

I gave blood for the first time, and let me tell you, the people working here were extremely accommodating and kind. They ensured I was comfortable and that the procedure was quick and (almost) painless. As someone who still hates needles, I no longer have worries about needing to give blood with these folks around, as they were very professional and amazing! Just make sure you have an appointment set up and you’ll have no issues whatsoever, highly recommend!

This location is great for donating blood and the medical staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and caring towards the donors. It’s preferable that you make an appointment to donate as you may have to wait or come back later, but they want to take all the donors they can get. They are professional and respectful of your privacy when they go through the check-in process (medical evaluation/history). They are also careful and safe when they conduct the donation process. They are willing to help accommodate people who struggle with needles, blood, or other issues and will check in about your well-being during the process. They offer free snacks and drinks and encourage you to rest and recover at the end.

I donate blood every 60 days. I have been going to this location to donate for the last several years. Everyone is really nice and always appreciates every donation. After you donate there are snacks and water/juice available. I am able to make an appointment on-line that is convenient for me. It only takes approximately 30-40 minutes.

I donate platelets monthly at this center. I go in the evening, and there is almost always someone at the front desk. A couple of negative posts mention an empty front desk. Please understand that the Red Cross has an obligation to keep costs low. Therefore, they rely on volunteers to staff the front desk most of the time. If there isn’t someone there, please don’t be insulted – be happy that money is being spent for the right purposes. Better yet, volunteer your own time.

I had an appointment I had booked through the app. Was told I was a walk-in and couldn’t donate. Even though I had a confirmation email of my appointment, clearly someone canceled and the app opened up there slot. All they had to do was print an updated donor list for today. Not to mention maybe 1 other person was in there donating. Really wanted to start donating my AB- plasma here soon. The way I was treated and my time wasted I won’t ever return. The worst part is I made this appointment after they had canceled the local blood drive this morning that I had an appointment for over a month. Life South here I come!

Do not expect the staff to care about you or your time. I scheduled a plasma donation earlier in the week and arrived early to check-in and ask questions. When entering it is an office-like setup where the donation center sits behind a waist-length wall. You are directed to a empty front desk where you check-in on a laptop. I was asked what type of donation I was intent on giving and I mentioned that I had a plasma donation appointment at 9:10. I was instructed to sit in the lobby area and an attendant would be with me shortly. Twenty minutes later another attendant asked what type of donation I was giving and mentioned someone would be with me shortly. A lady who just walked up to a donor mentioned that she cancelled my appointment as she spoke with my father of which he never mentioned this to me. Even interesting enough, I got an e-mail confirmation of my appointment but did not get an e-mail cancellation of the appointment. On top of that no explanation or attempt to apologize for any inconvenience that the misunderstanding may have generated. I do not believe anyone owes me a damn thing, but the attitude, and lack of consideration on my first time giving plasma of which the operator on the phone mentioned how important my plasma was really did not make this experience for me one to support the red cross considering that many of the financial donations go to the overhead in the running of the organization and not the humanitarian effort. There are better run organizations that would value your time and efforts more importantly ones that would directly impact those that need help. If you do consider donating to Red Cross, I would suggest a different location as the staff at this location do not seem to care.

I was nervous about donating, but the people there are super cool! They make sure you are accommodated for and there are always plentiful snacks and juice for afterwards. I had a great experience and would encourage any hesitant readers to try it out!
