I’ve donated blood for about 30 years ( first 27 years in Chicago burbs where there were no problems at all.) and donating at the Red Cross has given me the worst EXPERIENCES ever… not once, twice or three times…. More! I keep hoping it will improve. My husband and I are finding another place to donate.

I wish I could give 0 stars. I have given blood here many times, but I have never been late. Today, I was 10 minutes late due to helping my Mom. I drove there fast as I could, prepared to wait since I was late. There was no one in there giving blood–just staff. The front desk person was immediately rude about my being late, and said they probably couldn’t do it since I was late. I offered to come back/reschedule. She continued to try and get me put back into the system, but very annoyed. She was impatient when I was trying to give her what she was asking for and asked me “you’ve been here before right?”, as if why don’t you know this? Then she informed me that they already took me out of the system since I was late. She proceeded to try and put me back in, but was extremely annoyed. She then told me to have a seat. Quickly the intake staff member told me to sit in the office. When she came in, she asked me name and I told her that I was late. She immediately shook her head and said “no, we won’t be able to do this today”. I walked out and told the front desk person I wouldn’t be back since they are so rude. I can’t believe how I was treated to try to donate blood. I thought there was a desperate need for it. I have filed a complaint with the Red Cross. I really can’t go back here and will find someplace else. I am still shocked at the rudeness.

The experience was horrible. I had scheduled a plasma appointment at this location. As I got here to check in, on the sheet, the only mention was the plasma appointment but no name in front of it. I tried to explain the supervisor that it could be a system glitch but she was adamant that there was no appointment scheduled. I completely understand the importance of an appointment but I think Red Cross doesn’t understand the concept of “voluntary donation”. I was at the location, but just because there was no name in front of the appointment I couldn’t DONATE and my 40min drive was for nothing. I hope red cross can do better and respect the concept of voluntary donation.

I moved to this location after the Blood Connection took over Rex and I now appreciate how organized Rex Blood Services was run. This operation needs to be streamlined. Sitting for 30 minutes before getting screened, with an appointment, is very frustrating. Then the odd thing where I cannot pick my own drink from the refrigerator and there has to be someone giving me a water. It makes you feel like you can’t be trusted after I volunteered and walked in to give you a donation.

They have a online appointment process. Do not just stop in, they sometimes will not be able to “work you in”. They also have a online questionaire you can do 24 hours before arrival to spend you your appointment. Very good staff – they have been doing this for a long time – some for decades. They go pretty quick. Cookies and drinks for the post giving rest period before you leave.

Rude, unprofessional. I was going to be late because of traffic…tried to call couldn’t speak to the actual donation center people to see if it was ok. When I came in, it was my first time… the man treated me with such distain. They sat me down and looked at my arm for LESS than two seconds and said my veins weren’t strong enough for plasma donation ( I’ve given plasma before) and sent me on my way. I drive 50 mins to get to the place to try to do good and they treated me like trash. It makes all of Red Cross look bad

The Red Cross may have issues but I still believe in donating blood thru them. There are good folks here; kind, courteous and appreciative. They do a good job.

Nice staff, good snacks even if they don’t have soda, and received an email for a $10 gift card for donating
