I schedule my appointments here, to be the 1st appointment, because when my wife went to give platelets here, they were 2 hours past her appointment time, before they ever started. This morning, I was scheduled for starting when they opened and even though, last time I donated double platelets, the lady took 50 minutes training (poking my arms), (Jena-I think),I still came back to give double platelets again, a week later. I have lost many relatives to cancer and this is a way to help people fighting cancer. This morning, I showed up, before my appointment time and was told they didn’t have the ability to see me for 3 hours and wanted me to just sit and wait. Why in the world do they even have people schedule a time, if they can’t even serve the 1st appointments at opening time? I am now looking for a different organization to give double platelets and I am O+ so please share your recommendations with me. The lack of professionalism and ability to follow a schedule (on every appointment I’ve had for double platelets) is disheartening. I have given blood to them over 100 times and yet this is still how they treat me. I hope others who go here, are treated better, than they treated me.

I have donated blood here several times. Today, the lady at the front desk was exceptionally rude. She acted like I was completely dumb and just shouldn’t have come in. I have never felt so unwelcome anywhere. I will not return here to donate. I have been a donor since I was 16. So unfortunate!

All of the staff are friendly and professional. They take care of you from check-in to snack-out (having a snack and a drink before leaving, just to be sure everything is okay after donating).

Had a 4pm appointment- at 4:45 I was told it would be another 15 minutes before I would been pre- screened. This location has no sense of urgency and makes it seems like it’s a privilege for me to give blood when there is a nationwide shortage. Due to time constraints, I had to leave without giving blood. Unfortunately, not the 1st time there has been major delays. I understand being behind schedule and the lack of empathy of employees- but every time? Who runs this place?

Too slow and silly rules. I wanted to bring my special needs son with me to donate blood, and they told me the only way to donate was to leave him alone in the waiting room. Lack of understanding for families with special needs is inexcusable!

I give platelets twice a month and I usually donate at the Red Cross facility in Durham, but due to a scheduling conflict I have donated at the Cary facility twice now. My first visit was scheduled late in the afternoon and I received a call from the staff offering an earlier time. Entering the clinic both times I was greeted by a very personable volunteer who was very welcoming. The staff was very professional and caring. The staff at this facility are busy going back and forth between platelet donors and blood donors yet made sure I was comfortable. The facility director and staff thanked me several times for donating. I would not hesitate to donate here on a regular basis. I had to wait no more than 10 minutes to check in.

I’m O negative and would really like to donate blood but it’s getting to be a real pain. I went several weeks ago and after going through the check in process, blood pressure, blood stick I was told that because I had a tiny surgical incision on the palm of my hand that was completely healed (surgery done over 2 weeks ago, sutures coming out the next day) I was told that I was not eligible to donate. They said that I was “not healthy” because I had sutures in place. They knew about the healed incision when I got there…it was obvious for the BP and the blood stick. I tried again this weekend. I, again, had a scheduled appointment, was not warned that they were running late, no one apologized or kept me posted. I waited an hour and then left because I had another commitment afterwards. Between these 2 appointments I wasted about 4 hours of my time (30 minute drive each way to get there), not to mention the gas.

The staff at this center don’t give the impression that there is a nationwide shortage on blood supplies or that they care if you donate or not. I’ve donated over 100 times in the NY area and I was hoping to continue that activity after moving to Cary, but my 2 experiences at this center have convinced me that it won’t be here. The first time, I came to give platelets on an early Sunday morning and they actively tried to discourage me from donating because it would be an inconvenience to do a single needle donation instead of their normal 2 needle donation. They finally did it, but only because I made it clear that after coming all the way out, I wasn’t coming back if I didn’t donate. The second time, I had an appointment for 10 am on Saturday, and they told me that even though I had an appointment, it would be at least an hour wait to donate. And the reason was that they didn’t have enough technicians that were familiar with the equipment. I decided to wait, but then left after I saw technicians walking around chatting with each other and plenty of empty beds, and when they told even whole blood donors that it would be an hour wait. The final straw was when the receptionist told me that the best way to avoid a wait was to sign up for the first appointment of the day (at 7 am!) Clearly this is a chronic issue for them, and they just don’t care.

I am a regular whole blood donor. I have had great, good and not so great donations at the Cary location. My last 3-4 donations have been worse than not so great. I donate early to avoid any back up, however, at 8am there are backups. Today I arrived 10 minutes early for my donation. The chairs were full and I found one nearby. I was asked by 3 people my appointment time (3 of 4 staff members knew my appointment time). Once an appointment seat became free, I moved to it and waited, and waited and waited some more. Aplenty the 8:30 appointment times were more important than 8:15. At no time were any people waiting told what the delay time would be. The best part is when I finally get to donate I am greeted by a condescending employee.

I writing to express my disappointment with this system or clinic. This is my first time volunteering to give blood. All over your site it is listed that there is a shortage of blood donors. I came to your website to give blood while on my Christmas break. I even called and spoke with a gentleman over the phone who assisted in setting me up with an appointment. The website said 7 slots still available. Arrived at the Cary NC Clinic and was turned away at the door. Person said if my name was not on the list from a previous day then they can’t see me. I followed up with what should I do then. He said sign up online for another day. How will I know if I sign up on another day that I would not be turned away??? This system is obviously not working as I selected an open slot, drove over here and I am shocked that I am turned away at the door to donate blood! Made to feel like I was here asking for something. Was just here to help. Disappointed… will not be back.
