Second time donating at this location. The first time I checked myself in at the computer, no one working there said anything to me. I was finally taken back to start the screening around 35 minutes after my appointment time (45 after I arrived). The second time, there were two individuals working at the desk, but I’m not sure why, because they just told me to sign in at the computer and wait. Same basic experience this time, around 40 minutes after my appointment time, I was taken back for the screening. This second appointment I had made earlier that same day, so they had no record of it. I just got signed up for a standard donation instead of the Power Red donation I was trying for. Not that big a deal, except for there seemed to be no reason to have me do something different; there was the right equipment available, it just seemed like the staff ignored me the whole time. On a better note, once you actually get started with the screening and donation process, everything is fine, the staff is nice enough and things go smoothly, but it seems to always be a frustrating process just to get seen. I’m not sure what other locations are like, but I’d recommend looking elsewhere if possible.

Learned the hard way that the main image in Google maps for this building (red brick) is *not* this building– it’s white. Driving around in vain trying to find the building in the photo made me late, and apparently there’s an arrival window to donate plasma that I’d missed. Hopefully that can be fixed. The volunteer at the front desk was courteous throughout and it clearly wasn’t her call, but it was frustrating to be turned away after all that. It looked like the whole blood donation wait time for walk-ins was 30 minutes, so on a happy note they’re clearly getting more donors than they need at this location.

Two weeks in a row this center has been understaffed. Waiting area full of donors trying to help. No one spoke to us for an hour this afternoon. Same thing last Sunday. When we finally asked, the staff all claimed that they weren’t in charge and shrugged off our requests for a bit of professionalism. You can’t send emails claiming an emergency request for donations and then treat donors so irresponsibly. We expect better.

I’ve visited this center on multiple occasions, and regardless of the appointment time or arrival, there always seems to be an extensive wait. It’s quite disappointing and demotivating. It would be great if they could enhance their organization to create a more positive experience for donors, encouraging them to return.

I can’t believe I’m actually taking the time to write a negative review about the American Red Cross, but here we are. Judging by the other reviews on their page, my experience here is unfortunately not an isolated incident.

I’ve donated blood here a few times and have never had a good experience. I typically show up 10-15 minutes early and have always had to wait at least 45 minutes past my appointment time. In an ironic turn of events, the one time I arrived late, they didn’t honor my appointment! They did this even though it was obvious there was no line, which makes me think there was no reason not to fit me in. If you’re giving blood in the DMV area it is 1000% worth it to go to the Charles Drew donation center in DC instead of this Fairfax one even if it is more out of your way. The people are friendlier and my appointments there always start around the actual appointment time!

I scheduled an appointment, arrived on time, and was told, quite rudely, that there was a 50 minute wait and it didn’t matter if I made an appointment or not.

It’s my first time for a donation and I called them before coming to make an appointment, but they said just walk in. I came, checked in, and after 10min they said that I don’t have an appointment for a donation, and they’re busy. That was a long trip from Richmond to my first donation of blood.

Staff are usually pleasant but the office is understaffed. I try to donate every 8 weeks but I either have my appointment cancelled or I get there and am told the wait is 60-90 minutes. Why make appointments if you don’t honor them?!? I am now on the search for another donor center. Inova, here I come!

Hour plus wait time and you have to sit there you can’t just take a number and walk outside or the staff will cry. Red cross should have more staff there and fewer people calling at all hours of the day to make an appointment that doesn’t get honored.
