Second time I have gone here to donate blood and apparently they are overbooked and understaffed. I literally saw two people giving blood. Keep getting these notices from the American Red Cross and I’d like to donate, but this is the second time I’ve turn down from this place. Kind of crazy when they’re open for another four hours. Judging from the reviews, I’m not the only one. I will not come back here.

4th time donating platelets at this location. Staff is extremely friendly and take great care of you while you donate. Almost every time I donate I have been given a call for the option ti come in sooner for people who have canceled also.

It’s no surprise all the complaint reviews about this Center. What is a surprise, however, is that apparently, the only response from the Red Cross is “We’re sorry, send us an email” and they do NOTHING about the issues. This location regularly cancels appoints for no valid reason day of. This time I went and in the screening they tried to tell me my temperature was 94 degrees! I am fine, and am not ill. They took it twice and said it came up 94. That’s not even possible. I’d certainly know it if my temp was that low. They told me they’re not allowed to take it again. I went home, took my own temp, and sure enough, it was fine, 98. I mean, seriously. The Red Cross is in deep need of donations, and this is what volunteers are met with at their centers. NO EXCUSE for it. NONE. Just pathetic

Today I was supposed to donate platelets, but the machine broke. I understand things break, but for some reason, I was the one out of 6 who got cut. There were a couple of older looking gentlemen that arrived after me. The workers knew them by name. I assumed they were regular donors. They also looked retired. I’ve been getting calls weekly from the Red Cross to donate platelets (which I’m going to put an end to that the next time they call – add me to their do not call list). I work full time and have very little free time to make the 3 hour commitment of time. I had a scheduled day off today so I scheduled my donation for today. It’s not easy to find time in my schedule for the 3 hour appointment since I work full time and have family responsibilities. I wondered why I was the one cut and if these gentleman were actually retired there’s a good chance they had more time in their schedule to reschedule than someone who works full time. Right before this appointment, I ran up to NH (45 min drive) to the wake of my friend’s mother. I was literally there 20 minutes because I had this platelet appointment. Spent a few minutes with her and hopped in my car and drove back to Danvers to make this appointment only to be the one cut. Had I known I could have stayed for the service.

Got an email about how badly there is a need for donations, Made an appointment, drove an hour here all to be turned away due to “short staffing.” I made it clear I was willing to wait however I was told that actually they were closed, despite the fact that two people answered the door. I completely understand if there is not enough staff to accommodate but it would be nice to be notified that my appointment needed to be canceled before driving an hour to the location. Unprofessional. No wonder there is a shortage. No one likes wasting their time.

The Red Cross is a great organization itself, and I’ve donated blood 4 times at different places. I’ve tried to schedule here three times. One time the machine broke so they called and canceled. Another time, a woman didn’t have my name even though I had proof of the appointment and she turned me away and was rude. Although this time I booked the wrong type for my height, which I feel should have been vetted out on the app, I was turned away and told to just comeback a different day because they were booked for other types of appointments. With such a shortage it shouldn’t be this difficult to donate here.

I have been donating platelets for a couple months now. Just something I want to do, as I’ve known several friends that have had cancer. It’s a 2.5 hour commitment that I’m glad to make. I make my appointments online on the Red Cross site. I’ve never had any issues with cancellations, except for one appointment made the same day. It was near the end of the time the donation center was open for the day. I got there, scanned my card into the check in computer- it said there was no appointment for me. That may have been my fault- same day last minute appointment. There wasn’t anyone at the check-in desk for me to ask, so I just left. I chalked it up to me not planning ahead, then took myself out to lunch. All the employees I’ve dealt with here have always been polite and have answered any questions I might have. Going as often as I have been (about every 2 weeks), I think they’re used to seeing me and I’ve become a regular client to them. The fact that I wear t-shirts with funny statements on them and that I usually bring chocolates to reward them for their dedication to their job probably doesn’t hurt either.

I saw the negative reviews and thought they couldn’t be that bad, I was wrong! I had an appointment for 4:15PM today during the snow storm, I figured since they call me so much they would at least give me a call if the appointment was canceled. Nope, drove in the snowstorm just for them to tell me I’m crazy. I’d appreciate it if they take me off the call list…. Definitely avoid this place at all cost

I love donating blood, but the ineffectual management of this donation center makes that very difficult. About half of the appointments I have scheduled have been canceled last minute, though the worst was today. I was scheduled for a 1pm appointment on May 16th for a double red. I showed up and there was not a single soul there, except for another donor who was just as confused as I. The door was unlocked, lights on, and there were no staff members in the building. I did not receive a cancellation from the Red Cross that day either. It would also be a shame if medical equipment and computers were to be stolen because another blunder like this.

The only way I’ll return to this facility is if I’m running it. I’ve been donating blood for 35+ years in different cities and have to say this location is the most poorly-run of all I’ve been to.
