MEDIC was established in 1958 by Carl Nelson, MD, under the sponsorship of the Knoxville Academy of Medicine. Area physicians supported the independent, not-for-profit blood center because they wanted a source of blood from volunteer donors, and they desired centralization of blood collection, testing and distribution. MEDIC’s operational and capital costs are financed by blood supplier processing fees charged to hospitals. MEDIC is the only U.S. blood center which has a Blood Coverage Program covering members’ blood supplier processing fees at any hospital in the country. MEDIC is an accredited member of the American Association of Blood Banks and America’s Blood Centers. The center adheres to the blood product safety regulations establish

I wish there was an option to give zero stars. I applied for a job. Got scheduled for an interview. And then the woman that I kept speaking with kept claiming that she was calling my phone but I never got anything so I try to reschedule it three separate times. The first time I emailed them because the schedule time came and went with radio silence. The second and third times right before I was supposed to have this interview it was either changed or canceled. I asked if I could call them, I asked if I could come for an in person interview, and didn’t get any responses to those but responded to the ones sent after that trying to reschedule. I don’t know who’s in charge of hiring or doing the interview process, but it seriously needs to be looked at.

My family and I are Brazilians. We went to donate blood at this location because we beleive that it can help those in need. We also believe that blood does not discriminate, but we felt very different when we walked into this place since they treated us very poorly and did not let us donate our blood.

My donation of 11/15/2022, was just wonderful! I was almost crushed in my SUV in the parking lot at the Clinton Walmart as I was parking. An out of control wild driver could have totaled my car or worse. I slammed my brakes in time. I went inside for my appointment on shaky legs. The staff allowed me time to calm down before taking my pulse. They were so kind! Each one and especially the team leader were great. They thanked me several times and were just the best! I am working toward my 6th gallon and I had several things to do that day, a lunch date with friends, etc.. Because this great team worked with me a few extra minutes, I was not rejected and sent home. They were so friendly and I enjoyed them so much. They made sure I was given all the coupons and special T-shirt for the UT vs UK competition drive. Life brought me to TN, but I’ll always be a KY girl at heart. I keep that to myself. If someone has never donated before, this is easy, fun, and you will save lives. It is one of the most important things you can do to give back to your community.

It’s been awhile since I posted here, and it is always the right time to say what an important part of our community Medic is. As a staff, I have never known a more dedicated, hard-working and caring group of people. They are as much family as anything. I do wish, as an aside, that the star rating was raised from five to ten. The wonderful folks at Medic have earned a Ten Star Rating!

I love donating with Medic. The staff is experienced, efficient, and courteous. They make the experience enjoyable. I have an anxiety disorder, but I love to donate to help others. Medic staff are always sensitive to my needs, tell me before they do anything, check on me to be sure I’m alright, and give me time after donating to be sure I’m ready to go. Everyone is treated with respect. The mobile drives are also very convenient. I’ve never had a bad experience. I will continue to donate whenever I can.

I had a very positive experience when I donated at the Medic center in West Knoxville. All personnel were very friendly and professional. They thanked me over and over for coming in to donate. I have donated nearly five gallons with Medic. They called and needed my blood type, A+. I went in and they didn’t have my appointment I made online, but they saw me and I did not have to wait. The facility was very clean and the staff was fun. The needle stick was very easy. It was a fun atmosphere. I felt very good about going. They practiced safe procedures in this time of COVID 19, and that was good! I was in and out within 45 minutes. I was thanked at least five times by the staff. I got snacks and two small sodas to take with me. I always keep bottled water in my car. It’s very important to stay hydrated after donating and eat a good meal before going.

The staff at Medic are professional and skilled. I try to donate regularly and have always been treated with an abundance of kindness and gratitude. The only bad experience I’ve had was my fault for not asking for help when re-positioning my arm during a donation. This is a wonderful organization, with a well trained, experienced staff.

I have donated with Medic for over 25 years. They always make it convenient and fast. Their staff are kind and professional and always very appreciative that I took my time to give to others. Recently my wife needed a couple of pints of blood as she was going through chemo treatments for breast cancer. I never received a bill for that. Thank you, Medic, for all you do for so many here in East Tennessee.

I love donating blood however, the last four times I have dreaded going because of the staff. The girls were rude and not friendly. Today I donated blood at the Walgreens parking lot off of Hall. The girl that did the intake named Jackie was wonderful! After I saw her, Lee was the one that set up the needle and whatnot. They were both sweet, they joked around and they made me feel extremely comfortable. I wish I could see them every time I donated blood. I just wanted to give a shout out to Jackie and Lee for being so awesome today!

Congratulations of your 60 years of service! I have been donating platelets with Medic for about 21 years now. Their service is wonderful; they are attentive to my needs and are friendly and courteous while doing so. It is comforting to know that by donating I’m helping people who are sick. Thank you for being there to perform this very essential task, Medic.
