My treatment at this location has me dodging Red Cross donation calls for months now. I’ve visited this location 3 times, I’ve arrived early, on time, and late – no matter when I arrive, I’ve had to wait at least 30 minutes before getting started, then wait longer before the platelets actually start leaving my body. Staff here default to rude, but on a good day they’re neutral or indifferent. I get that for them it is just a job, but that is the same everywhere else in the world, and yet nobody is as rude as several of the staff here… here, at the place where their clients/customers are literally donating time to donate their blood. Strangely, it seems like they’re nicer once one is in the chair with needles plugged in… maybe that is because you then become their patient? It boggles the mind. I want to go back, I want to donate enough platelets to earn some silly Red Cross socks… but it ruins my afternoon/evening every time I go. (I’ve shared this through their customer service phone line but not surprisingly, no discernible difference.)

I won’t be donating blood here again. I’ve been donating blood to the Red Cross since 2008, but after two times at this location, I’ll be donating elsewhere.

I read some of these reviews on here about a hour before my apt, and I was nervous bc most of them were negative. However, my experience of donating whole blood (July 1, a Thursday afternoon) was extremely great! I had to wait about 15 mins (which isn’t a big deal) but other than that, I have zero complaints. Very smooth process and friendly staff. I will be back to donate soon – even got a nice hat today. Thank you for a wonderful donating experience and your hard work!!!

I scheduled a donation for early afternoon on the 4th of July, since I work an 80 hour week and can’t come in most days. Reason for my visit was that my doctor told me to donate red blood cells after seeing my bloodwork.

I have always thought highly of the American Red Cross as an organization. However, I have had only one or two good experiences actually donating blood at the Charles Drew Blood Donation Center. Four or five times I have come and they were understaffed and couldn’t actually take the blood donations. In these instances, my wife and I have waited over an hour and was asked to kindly wait another 30-40 minutes. The last four or five times, we have just left and were unable to donate blood. It’s a shame that they can’t get basic staffing operations together to carry out blood drives they desperately ask for. I receive multiple calls every week asking for me to donate blood or plasma, but they can’t ever seem to get it out of my arm. My wife and I are going to start donating directly to hospitals when possible.

I gave platelets at this location and was apprehensive to see some bad reviews. Just writing this to say that I had a great experience. No major delays (maybe waited 5 min to start) and they took great care of me throughout, piling me up with warm blankets. I hope no one will be put off from donating here by the reviews because absolutely did not match my experience

I was really excited to donate and looking forward to doing something for my community. I took time out of my work day to be at my 3:15 appointment. I waited for an hour before I was taken back for screening and ended up leaving because I had to be back at the office and didn’t have time for the donation. Had I been taken back during my appointment time or even 30 minutes after, I would have been able to donate. A corporation that is desperate for donations should be more mindful of appointment times and respectful of donors. Red Cross itself was the only obstacle that prevented me from donating, which is ironic. For a simple whole blood donation, the whole screening and donation shouldn’t take more than an hour. I made accommodations to give you MY blood, the least Red Cross can do is be accommodating. If you want more donations, make it easy for donors.

After reading so many negative reviews, I was prepared for a long wait and a less-than-pleasant experience. However, this was one of the smoothest whole blood donation appointments I’ve ever had. I didn’t need to wait, everyone was really kind and helpful, and the actual donation center itself was quite nice.

Was late to my appointment but they still did the intake process very quickly. Blood donations are never quick, but this was one of the quicker appointments I’ve ever had. Everyone was nice and helpful and there was no wasted time. I will continue to go here over Rockville. I’m surprised to see so many negative reviews, I can’t relate at all.
