I drove from frankfort to donate platelets. My appointment was at 2:30 but they didn’t set the machine up until 3:25. Then the worker missed my vein multiple times and it bruised. They offered to try a different vein but I was beyond discouraged at this point and was dangerously low on time so told them I was done. I’m mostly upset about the large package they open up just for platelets just going to waste. I won’t be coming back to this location. They need more staff. Way more staff.

Stable staff, each very professional and with good attitude (I only go for Apheresis department). They treat donors with humor and respect, which makes everything go better.

Noticed that the Red Cross was running dangerously low on blood on their website so I decided to register to donate blood for the first time. When it came time for my appointment to donate blood I was told by one of the staff that they weren’t accepting whole blood donations at the moment but were taking platelets. I told them that I didn’t have an appointment for platelets so of course I had to go home. This felt like a complete waste of my time because I set aside time off to donate blood and was sent the OK from my email to come in. Also all of the staff were assisting donors in another room so I had no one to assist me on how to check in to confirm my appointment nor what I should do. Even when I told an employee that it was my first time donating they told me that I should wait for someone to help me which took about 20 minutes for a staff to finally tell me that I was no longer needed.

Every platelet donation experience I’ve had has been great. Friendly nurses who make sure that you are as comfortable as possible. There are tv’s and DVDs to watch, but usually just bring my headphones and listen to my own music.

Friendly and experienced staff, and the space was comfortable and quiet. My whole blood donation took less than half an hour from check in to check out, without using the RapidPass.

It’s not often that you can say you look forward to having someone stick you in the arm but the people at the Downtown Red Cross make giving blood an enjoyable experience.

They make the donation process very comfortable for the donors, and it can save someone’s life.

Clean and neat – usually find interesting stories from the phlebotomist.
